Ground Protection Mats – Frequently Asked Questions
The questions procurement teams, site engineers and rental buyers ask most often – answered in one place, with links to the detailed technical pages.
This FAQ covers the commercial and technical basics. For a full data sheet see the specification page, for selection logic see the buying guide and the thickness guide, and for site method see the installation guide.
If your question is about a specific project, the fastest route is to send us the equipment, ground condition, area and destination port – we will return a specification, layout suggestion and quotation with MOQ and lead time.

Selection and use
Load ratings are reference values on firm ground. Ground bearing capacity, contact area, joint design and traffic intensity determine the real safe arrangement. When the ground is wet and the assessment is uncertain, choose the thicker panel and connect every seam.
- 12.7 mm for pedestrian routes, events and light duty
- 15 mm for mixed site traffic and moderately soft ground
- 20 mm for heavy plant, haul roads, saturated subgrade and crane areas
- Always obtain an engineering assessment for crane outriggers and lifting plans
- Never use a mat to bridge a trench or unsupported void
Ordering, samples and shipping
ANVI HUANYU manufactures and exports from Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China, with monthly capacity of 10,000+ sqm. Standard black panels in stock sizes ship fastest. Custom dimensions, gauges and colours may carry a minimum order quantity and a longer lead time.
- Samples available for evaluation before a bulk order
- Batch material certificates and third-party test data on request
- Packing list with net/gross weight and pallet count supplied
- 20GP and 40HQ container loading plans available
- Spare connectors and locking hardware can be reordered separately

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between light, medium and heavy duty mats?
In our range it is primarily thickness and therefore bending stiffness: 12.7 mm for pedestrian and light duty, 15 mm for mixed traffic, 20 mm for heavy plant and soft ground. All three share the same material, tread options and connection-hole pattern.
How many mats do I need for my project?
For area coverage, divide the square metres by 2.98 for a 4 x 8 ft panel and add about 10% for joints and spares. For a linear road, divide the route length by 2.44 m per lane. Send the layout and we will draw it and count connectors.
Do the mats come with connectors?
Locking hardware is optional and quoted separately so you only order what the layout needs. We recommend connectors on any traffic or public route and suggest 5-10% spare bolts.
Are the mats reusable and how long do they last?
Yes. They are non-absorbent, UV stabilised and designed for 10+ years of redeployment with normal cleaning and storage. Most premature failures come from unsupported edges or a thickness that is too light for the subgrade.
Can I get custom sizes, colours or our company marking?
Yes. Tailored dimensions and thicknesses are supported, six base colours are available, and identification marking options can be discussed for rental fleets. Non-standard colours are subject to MOQ.
Can the mats be used on grass, turf or new concrete?
Yes. Protecting turf and finished surfaces from rutting and tyre marks is a core use. Use the pedestrian tread face up on public routes, lay geotextile on saturated turf and avoid covering grass longer than the job requires.
What documentation comes with a bulk order?
A packing list with weights and pallet count, a container loading plan, and on request a specification sheet, batch material certificate and third-party test data. Tell us your tender or import requirements at enquiry stage.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
It depends on size, thickness and colour. Standard black stock sizes have the most flexible terms; custom runs carry an MOQ and a longer lead time. Both are confirmed in writing with every quotation.
Do you offer a warranty or replacement parts?
Spare connectors and hardware are available as standalone orders. Discuss the applicable warranty and replacement terms for your order with our sales team before placing a bulk purchase.
Are the load ratings certified design values?
No. They are reference ratings on firm ground. For crane outriggers, lifting plans or public structures, obtain a site-specific engineering assessment using ground bearing capacity and reaction forces; we can supply material test data to support it.
